We influence policy and have helped change the law.

Law makers….

In 2019, our campaign led to a major policy win: free period products in all schools. We launched a petition that was presented to the NI Assembly, gathered testimonies and data, and briefed the Stormont Education Committee with evidence - and we won.

Then in 2021, we went even bigger. Our campaign made history when the North became the second place in the world (after Scotland) to pass a law - through MLA Pat Catney’s Private Members’ Bill - making period products free in selected public buildings. It took countless meetings and briefings with MLAs, consultations, campaign videos, stunts, support from ally organisations, a bit of pushback, and a lot of persistence - but we did it!

Today, we’re still pushing for change - calling for period equality in every part of life. That means:

  • Better relationships and sexuality education so young people have the knowledge and tools to understand their bodies, their periods, and to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.

  • A stronger women’s health strategy so anyone facing menstrual health issues - from endometriosis to PMDD - can get a quicker diagnosis and better care.

  • Menstrual leave at work to support those who need time to manage their cycles without stigma.

  • Period-friendly school uniforms so every young person can feel comfortable and confident at school.

We don’t believe anyone should be held back because of their cycle - so we’re here to help change that.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of this campaign and I’m glad that finally our voices have been heard - we did this! There was a time I would have really needed a law that provided free period products. I’m so happy that no-one will have to worry about their period needs as much ever again.”
